The Homer Stallions cheer program teaches the basic fundamentals of cheerleading along with the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and community pride.  Thru practice, cheering for football games and participating in competitions the girls are exposed to a wide variety of cheer and spirit activities.  Many Stallions cheerleaders go on to cheer in high school and college.

Practices
All cheerleading practices start Monday, August 1st and are held up at the field until we go indoors to the schools.

2nd-8th grade – practices are 5:30 – 7:30 M-F the first week and then starting August 6th will be held M-Th. Starting in September practices will be M,T,Th for the rest of the season.

K and 1st (FLAG) – practices are 5:30 – 7:00 M,T,Th the month of August and go down to two days starting in September. Usually, Tuesday and Thursday dependent on the coach/team.

No bare midriff tops
No jewelry – that includes posts, etc. for new piercings
No uniforms from other cheer teams should be worn to practice
Hair pulled back

Missing more than 10 practices prior to competition practices will result in routine placement changes for the cheerleader.

Games
Cheerleaders are expected to cheer their team’s game both home and away. Games are usually on Saturdays but can be on a Sunday.

Flag cheerleaders cheer for the Flag games which are only at home. They normally play on Saturdays.

Cheerleaders cheer in good and bad weather. If football is playing, the cheerleaders need to cheer.

Game times usually start at 9:00am with the youngest teams going first. Varsity will usually start around 7:00pm.

No make-up, jewelry or nail polish for games. (exception made for Homecoming)

Missing more than two games will affect competition eligibility.

Uniforms
The Homer Stallions provide your uniform, body liner, socks and hair bow. Shoes are provided for 2nd-8th. Flag needs to buy white sneakers – your coach will give you more details. All girls needs to purchase maroon “spankies” to go under the skirt.

You are required to return your uniform cleaned at the end of the season. The rest is yours to keep.

Grade 4th and up are required to get a wind-suit.

Fittings will be held in May.

May Cheer Uniform and Wind Suit Fittings
A windsuit is required as part of the uniform for grades 4th thru 8th. If you know someone that has a wind suit that you can borrow that is fine, or you can use past years wind suits as long as they have one.  The date has not been set for windsuit or uniform fittings in May.

Competition
2nd-8th will attend at least the SWCCL competition in early November. Participation in competition is not required but is a lot of fun. Should you chose to participate – the practices become mandatory. More information on competition will be distributed during the season.

Cheerleaders can suffer concussions just like football players from contact with the ground or each other while stunting.

Concussion Awareness - Awareness for parents also

Parents, you know your child best.
When in doubt, sit them out

 Concussion Awareness
You have probably read about the recent Concussion law in Illinois which requires all high schools players to get medical approval before being allowed to return to play. Our league is making efforts to ensure we are aware of recognizing symptoms, understand basic prevention and what to do in case of a concussion. It is also important for Parents to understand the same, so please review the available information as well.

    Recent Updates

     Weather for practice...
Please keep in mind that football and cheerleading is done at games even if it is raining. The only reason games are called is for lightning or excessively heavy rain. For this reason we enjoy practice in the rain. We will only cancel practice if we lose the fields due to excessive rain and the fields not being able to drain before practice. Before practice is called, we will check the fields and then make the decision.

     Lightning after practice starts...
If you see lightning in the area after practice starts, Please return to the field to pick-up your children. If there are storms threatening, please remain at practice in case practice has to be cancelled after starting.

The website will be updated before 5pm when practice is called off when possible. If we are at the field, we may not be able to update the website.

         For all practices and games;

Please keep your dogs on leashes

Please maintain control of your animals

Clean up after your dogs messes

     No Parking at the library

The library will tow vehicles of people who park in the lot that are not patrons inside the library. Furthermore, the Stallions encourage the library to tow vehicles that are parked there while attending games, practices or Stallions events. Yes, the library is a public facility, but parking is restricted to those that are within the facility. Furthermore, the library is not to be used for its bathrooms. Please respect our neighbors as you do yours.
